I’ve stuck 3D printed sides on the ball to hold the skins, this leaves one round panel on each side that can be removable for access:

Each removable panel has an internal frame to make it rigid so it can be driven on:

I’ve made FoamPVC panels as I did with Version 2 and stuck those to the Droid. The head is covered with vacuum formed styrene sections and will resemble the cut-away pictures in the Star Wars EP7 Visual Dictionary:
