Inner Jaw Mechanism
|3D Printed Alien Xenomorph Suit
This page is building the Inner Jaw mechanism, check out the main project index for the rest.
There is a YouTube video about this section
The inner jaws for the head will need to slide in and out of the outer jaws and also open and close themselves, which will require various mechanisms. This requires an array of 3D printed parts:
The inner jaws have their jaws synced together with a figure of eight drive string which is wrapped around their pulleys. The bottom jaw is then pushed by a servo which makes both top and bottom jaws open together:
This whole assembly will slide in and out between four rollers. Note the cut out in the back for the servo to dock into its home position:
The next mechanical layer is a bracket to hold the big wheel which will push the jaw in and out like a steam train piston:
The inner jaw itself is operated by a further push rod attached to the serrvo:
The next stage is the blue part pictures below. This allows the outer jaw to hinge and also holds the inner jaw mechanism. The bottom of the inn jaw mounting will also be braced against some other part of the whole head frame:
Here are some pictures of the whole jaw assembly, check out the video above for more details:
